FIJI'S number one seeded Wang Qi won the Frincos Hire Fiji Table Tennis Open in Nadi over the weekend. The veteran player also won the 040 and 050 men's singles and doubles title. New Zealander Jessica Macaskill won the women's open singles, open doubles and mixed doubles titles during the two day event at the NASA Hall in Namaka, Nadi. Macaskill bagged the under-21 girl's singles and doubles titles. Wang Qi defeated Vanuatu's Number one seeded Yoshua Shing 11-6, 13-11, 11-9 in a very exciting final. Shing's attacking and all round skills was amazing to watch and he took Wang Qi to the wire. However the great defensive and unorthodox game of penholder Wang Qi saved him from the jaws of defeat and losing in front of his home fans. |
