IT will be the battle royale of the "lefties". But on the eve of the US Open we're not talking about Petra Kvitova or Iveta Benesova.

It's the match-up the table tennis world has been waiting for between Australia's Melissa Tapper and Poland's Natalia Partyka. They are the No 1s in their respective countries and ranked No 4 and No 1, respectively, in the world. They are both left-handers _ a rarity in table tennis _ but they have never met across a net.

Besides two gold medals from Athens and Beijing, plus the world and European championships, Partyka has something Tapper wants dearly _ an Olympic Games tournament.
