Despite sitting out two ITTF World Tour tournaments last month to work on her game, paddler Feng Tianwei got her 2012 season off to a poor start at the US$148,400 (S$185,240) Qatar Open after losing 4-2 to unfancied German Han Ying in the first round on Thursday.

Ranked fifth in the world, Feng, who is the tournament's top seed, started strongly against Han Ying (No 145), winning the first game 11-4. But the 27-year-old German launched a spirited comeback in the second game, claiming the victory 11-6 to level the score.
