The date of Sunday 4th September 2010 will be forever etched into the history of Christchurch, the second most populous city in New Zealand.

It was the day when the city was rocked to its core by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake.

Following this, dozens, if not hundreds of aftershocks were recorded with the most significant being a 6.3 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday 22nd February 2011.

In total 181 people lost their lives as a result in this tragic series of events.

Minimal Damage
Fortunately, the home of table tennis in Christchurch, Table Tennis Canterbury and their splendid venue, only incurred minimal damage and it is still safe to use.

Home for Development
From Tuesday 15th November until Monday 21st November 2011, Christchurch played host to an Oceania Development Course, held under the auspices of the Oceania Development Programme in conjunction with the ITTF Development Programme.

Myself, Scott Houston, the Oceania Development Officer, was the expert on duty.
