Volkswagen 2011 Women's World Cup

In the opening matches, the Dominican Republic’s Wu Xue meeting New Zealand’s Karen Li and Egypt’s Dina Meshref crossing swords with Ariel Hsing from the United States.

The Singapore Table Tennis Association will be hosting the Volkswagen 2011 Women's World Cup.  It will be held from the 28th to 30th October 2011 at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.  This tournament will witness top players from around the world converging in Singapore vying for the total prize money of US$150,000.

The tournament is into its 15th edition and it will showcase some of the top players from around the world.  The world champion, Feng Tianwei (Singapore) heads the player's invitation for this event.  Feng Tianwei is aiming to repeat her amazing feat at the Japan and Korean Opens where she came out Champion.  Singapore's representatives, Wang  Yuegu and Li Jiawei, will also be forces to reckon with.

Powerhouse China will be sending two of their best players, Li Xiaoxia and Ding Ning.  Other invited players include Fukuhara Ali (Japan), Kim Kyung Ah (Korea), Tie Yana (Hong Kong), Hirano Sayaka (Japan), Wu Jia Duo (Germany), Jiang Hua Jun (Hong Kong) and Li Jiao (NED).

Tournament format
The four Intercontinental representatives from Africa, Latin America, North America and Oceania (Karen Li) shall compete in an "Intercontinental Cup (ICC)" played in one group of round robin.  The winner of the "Intercontinental Cup" promotes to the next stage of the event joining the remaining 16 players where they compete in four groups of round robin.  The group winners and runners up will compete in a knockout deciding the first four positions.

North Harbour Table Tennis Association sends our support and good wishes to both Karen Li and her coach Li Chunli for the Intercontinental Cup and we all hope to see Karen qualify for the next stage of the World Cup.
