21 coaches from throughout New Zealand attended a most successful ITTF Level 1 Coaching Course over the weekend, 27-30 January 2011.  Read more on ITTF website.

In attendance from North Harbour were:  Mitchell Barker, Michelle Zhao, Dave Scott, Eddie Coleman, John Lee Kuoch.  The course presenter was John Stapleton (ITTF Qualified Presenter) who was assisted by Tim Seaholme (Sports Science Expert).

Held in Palmerston North, the course was the 4th Level 1 course to be held in New Zealand with previous courses in 2005, 2006 and 2008.  The next course is planned to be held in Christchurch later this year in November, when Scott Houston, OTTF Development Officer is making an official visit.

Such is the success of the ITTF Level 1 structure since its inception that by the end of 2011, New Zealand would have had over 100 coaches attending one of the courses in this period.  There is now very strong interest in having a first ever ITTF Level 2 course in New Zealand or Oceania in 2012.

With New Zealand's sports coaching structure having undergone a massive restructure of the past 10 years, we were fortunate indeed that the ITTF coach eduction structure came along as it did, and was so closely aligned to the change to athlete focused, coach driven approach to coaching of sport.
