![]() Craig Dye has won the Open Men's Singles Title beating Ben Duffy (4:0) in the final. A first for North Harbour! "Wang Qi (Otago/Fiji) was the
first seed but he lost to Ben Duffy in the semi final. Ben played well
against him, keeping him under pressure throughout the match. Ben
and I then played in the final. We always have close matches which can go
either way. I was lucky to hit form at the right time and capturing the
first two sets in close battles allowed me to go on and win 4-0", says Craig. Back in 1986 and 1987 a North Shore player, Malcolm Darroch won the South Island Open Men's Singles two years in a row, but Craig winning on the weekend is the first time for North Harbour. Congratulations Craig from the management committee and North Harbour players on a tremendous achievement. See photo link from the South Island Championships held in Dunedin. |
